The Affair of the Bloodstained Egg Cosy

Last night I read ‘The Affair of the Bloodstained Egg Cosy‘ in a single sitting. It was good fun.

Cantina Laredo

We ate at Cantina Laredo last night: a shared chicken quesadilla starter, followed by enchilada Veracruz and chicken fahitas. At £5 for the starter and £15 each for our main courses you might be lulled into thinking the this Tex/Mex was just about affordable. The catch is with the drinks.

This is a chain restaurant with branches worldwide and the location on St Martin’s Lane (next to Jamie’s Italian) partly explains the higher prices. Service was efficient but the room was too noisy which meant conversation was harder than should be neccessary. You can eat the same fare at the Texas Embassy on Trafalgar Square at a lesser cost, so that’s what I’ll do in future.

X-Men: First Class

We saw X-Men: First Class last night. It wasn’t awful but it was very slow.

Clubbed to death in Brixton

I’m due to see the new X-Men movie at The Ritzy in Brixton on Friday.

A man was clubbed to death outside KFC in Brixton on Thursday night – directly across the road from The Ritzy.

There are safer places to live than Stockwell.

I can’t get my drugs from the pharmacist

I normally collect my diabetes medication from the pharmacist opposite Stockwell tube station. Unfortunately today the entire area is closed off by police tape because a man was murdered there last night.

The Sportsman

I had dinner on Sunday at The Sportsman. The portions are huge! I’ll definitely go back, especially for their two courses for a tenner menu. I enjoyed the food but was most impressed by the quality of service.

Imli

I had a bite to eat yesterday at Imli on Wardour Street. They charge £4.50 for a glass of lassi which I think is a total rip-off. My bill for a one course meal (chicken, bread, lassi – no rice, no veg or any other side dishes) was £21.

I won’t be rushing back.

Pneumonia jab

Today I had a vaccination against pneumonia. Why are the needles so long?

It’s been a good week

I got lots done this week and workwise I’ve completely updated the database from MyIsam to InnoDB with the users having not a single problem following the changes to more than 600 tables on the database. I’m quite pleased that it went so well after months of work in preparation.

I should do something to celebrate, but what??? Diabetes says no to a big drunk night out, as does common sense. Likewise no seven course meal with matching wines in a posh restaurant.

Repercussions

I spent much of the day in bed. My right knee is badly swollen following the exertions of the night before. Who says exercise is good for you?
